Yesterday my most favorite teacher ever, Mrs. Cameron, passed away. Reading her Facebook wall lets me know she wasn't just my favorite - she touched so many lives and made so many people believe in themselves...myself included.

She will be dearly missed.

This week we are kicking it old school.

Okay, 60's Old School, but still...

We made our maiden voyage to the LBJ Presidential Library today. LOVED IT!!

I'm a JFK junkie and LBJ falls right in line with my obsession. So do The Beatles! Drum lesson from Ringo? Sure, why not.

What a fun experience! We shall continue our love affair with presidents and history and all things nerdy discovery later this week, and:

I. Can't. Wait!!!

If today is any indication of their potential to nerd out with me this week, then I am definitely starting my savings account for our trip to France so we can engulf ourselves in an equally nerdy amount of 19th century Francophilian bliss in a few years!!

{Squeal-Snort of Happiness!}

Family game name...and a side of grapes (I had a side of "grapes," too).

Saturday, June 27, 2015

Ahhh, summer.

Let's do this...

Up next is The Goldfinch, and the rest start their release dates in mid-July...woo hoo!!

Update, June 29, 2015 - 11:23 pm:
What a great book. Page turner. Reminded me of Gone Girl.

I'm pretty sure it cannot be said that Mae is confused on how to relax. Can't believe we're approaching our first anniversary with her!!

Baby Steps.

That's been my motto today -

Baby Steps:
     to change...
     to cooperation...
     to new systems...
     to new ideas...
     to an open mind.

Change is difficult. I wore black today because it mattered to me.

I wore black today because it felt like the right thing to do.

Baby Steps.

The girls are making efforts to not hate each other, and they are succeeding in an admirably passive-aggressive way.

Baby Steps.

Whoever the parents are with two daughters twenty-seven months apart...and your daughters, for the most part, enjoy each other's company, I applaud you. Sincerely.

Multitudes of applause to you!

Because I'm really struggling in that department right now, and it's really hurting my heart.

Any good juju you could send my way would be dearly appreciated.

Please, and thank you.

A nice, relaxing moment of singing and giggling can turn to this in 20 seconds flat. I'm pretty sure I'm not strong enough for an entire summer this.

Do they realize they're still cute when they're making these mean faces?

These two...so much love.

Happy hair!

Now it's time for soccer - Go USA!!!

Finished! At least she got a chin...??

So fun! Thankful for the KRR inspiration!

Saturday, June 20, 2015

So that "reunited" thing from yesterday - I guess that was primarily just me feeling exceedingly happy to have both of my girls back home with me.

They have been substantially less happy than me about this reunion to our version of normal, meaning they enjoyed their time alone a lot more than I anticipated. My expectations are sometimes way too Polyanna for reality.

Fortunately, they are finally starting to reconnect instead of trying to mortally injure each other rebel.

They decided they wanted to paint canvases for their dad for Father's Day, so I decided I would paint along with them, although not for a gift for anyone.

Here's what I have created so far - this is only phase 1. Tomorrow while they are celebrating with their dad, I hope to put phase 2 into action (like smoothing out the jagged edges...and probably she should have the right to a nose, definitely a chin, and if she's lucky, she'll get an ear or two). We'll see - I'm so worried I'm going to mess up now!

Reunited and it feels so good...

If you're ever in the area, you really should check out Sugar Shack in Salado. Ooodles of fun!

So glad to have both of my babies back with me and thankful for all the fun they had during their one on one time with their Waco grandparents!

Pool Shark Training Pod -

This girl...figuring out pool. And darts. What a little trooper!

How did I manage zero photos today!?! A quote is going to have to suffice - I really love these words.

Tuesday, June 16, 2015

I just love getting to spend time with my girls one on one. That doesn't happen very often, due to the whole single mom thing and all, so I really try to take advantage of it when I can.

Jay and I decided to go see a movie today.

If you wear two pairs of glasses at the same time, does it make it 6D? I don't think so, but it was a fair question.

Jurassic World. You guys. It was a great movie. All of my clinching muscles are sore from all of the clenching. There were times when I was worried Jay was going to break the bones in my hand, and there were times I was worried I was going to break the bones in Jay's hand.

I have never been happier for a movie to be over.

Like, never.

And now we are dealing with something named Bill.

Jay is with her dad tonight. My plans included ordering a pizza from Mr. Gatti's and watching soccer. Guess what...

Such sad news. I guess we should all batten down the proverbial hatches and brace ourselves for more torrential events.

Please keep all of Texas, and especially Wimberley,  in your thoughts - the last go-around was enough. I won't say we aren't strong enough for round two, but positive thoughts, vibes, and karma would all be dearly appreciated for those who have already experienced the insanity associated with flooding.

I would like to say I am very thankful for modern technology during the bad weather we've faced recently. Although it doesn't grant miracles, it definitely helps with the general heads-up effect. And with that, I bid you farewell...

Monday, June 15, 2015

Jay spent the week with her grandparents last week, and it's Cee's turn this week.

Looking forward to some quality time with this little freckle-face cutie pie!!

Selfie cred to Jay...

Two-hundred days to go!

Breaking news:

It's not easy being Mae.

{exhibit a}

Saturday, June 13, 2015

I'm telling you - I'm in the throes of tween-hood every which way I look. Both girls have been spending a lot of time in their rooms Facetiming with their friends. Even Mae is getting in on the action - she needs her "time alone in her room" too. (sigh)

Friday, June 12, 2015

Jay spent the week in Waco at Camp Nana, and she had a blast. Cee and I missed her tons, and we got to pick her up today! I missed that little munchkin, and I was so glad to catch up with the girls' grandparents...

I do have to tell you that sitting by the lake is just magical - calming, soothing, and grounding. I needed that today.

Natural therapy with sweet Cee...

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

Simply irresistible.

Tuesday, June 9, 2015

Today was a great day.

Today was a day filled with hope and promise and new beginnings.

I celebrated today with tortellini and wine.

Yay, Tuesday!

Monday, June 8, 2015

When your youngest is going to spend a week with the grandparents, you expect to let them sleep with you on their last night because it's the right thing to do.

Because you know you're going to miss them...

What you don't expect is that you'll wake up to this.

But you know what? It makes your day!

Sunday, June 7, 2015

I have to brag on my essential oils. We've had a TON of rain in the last month (in case you missed it...), so the mosquitoes are just awful. Jay and I usually get nibbled on the most, and we are holding strong so far. I just mix a little glass bowl of this combo every other day or so (1/4 cup of grape seed oil, 3-5 drops of each essential oil), and we take off the lid and dab it on ourselves before going outside. I'm so pleased and so impressed with our lack of itching and scratching! Bonus? We smell pretty good, and we're really soft and silky. :)

Jay is packing her bags and heading out tomorrow for a week of Waco time. She really enjoys the Peace & Calming oils at night, so I made her a roller to use while she's gone. The following week it will be Cee's turn for a week in Waco, and now they both have their own little arsenal. They will just need to roll some on the back of their necks, their wrists, and the bottoms of their big toes, and sleep will be easy business for them.

I can't rave enough about how these oils have helped us have a calmer, happier time all the way around our home and our lives!

Quote of the day:

"Mom, do you mind if I take this picture down off of the wall in the dining room so I can practice my volleyball serve against it?"

157/365 - Fear of the B Word

Saturday, June 6, 2015

The start of each summer strikes an unexplainable fear in me: fear of the B word...Bored!!

Our morning started with a neighborhood garage sale which led to a discussion of what to do with our front room which led to an all-out excavation of said front room.

Their carefully guarded decision? Move it all out and make a plan.

Guess this will keep them busy (and away from the B word) for awhile!

In case you were wondering, I'm not at all concerned that four and a half (alright, five) years of my Bachelor's work is somewhere in this muddled mess, and I'm also not a bit concerned that nearly two years of Masters' work is in there.

No biggie.

Not worried at all.

Not a bit.

Not a single, solitary bit...

{deeeep breaths...deeeep breaths...}

No control issues here.

None at all...

{deeeep breaths...deeeep breaths...}

Quote of the Day:

"Wait, Cee. Practice your lines while I make mom a trashy party bun in the back..."

Summer time!!

Woo hoo!!

Les bonne temps roule...

Thursday, June 4, 2015

Today was a very black and white day for me.

You're a chihuahua or you're not (hint: you're not).

You're an Italian Greyhound or you're not (hint: you are - congratulations!).

You're coming back to the W next year or you're not (and trust me, I'm sad if you're not).

You're bringing the same Fu goodness to the 'burbs or you're not.

You stayed up too late or you didn't.

You're staying on the team or you're not.

You're going to mess with your little sister or you're not.

You're going to pay for that decision later or you're not (hint: you did, and I warned you against this...).
Lots of tears today - I think I've partially dehydrated myself. I am genuinely so excited for everyone who is off to seek new beginnings! I am beyond thankful for the lessons I've learned, for the friendships made, for the willingness to discuss the mistakes I've made along the way; and, I am proud of people for spreading their wings: some to new campuses, some to new districts, some to retirement. No matter how you look at it, people are taking their next gigantic steps in life - what a wonderful thing to celebrate!

I've said it nearly a million times - working where I work is a blessing. It's a family. You really can't understand it until you're a part of it. It's a thing of greatness. I'm looking forward to following people's new paths they're carving for themselves, and I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead of me.

But mostly right now, I'm looking forward to somewhere between nine and eleven continuous hours of sleep now that nothing is pending or needs attention or must be created. Translation: my mind will be at ease tonight, and I just might snore!!!

Summer, let's do this!!

Wednesday, June 3, 2015

Do us a favor and please don't  be one of those people who tell us how lucky we are to have "the whole summer off." Just don't go there. We love our job. We love our kids. We need you to know that over half of our summer is focused on previous and future students. This is a fact.

Thanks in advance for not patronizing teachers without truly knowing how their summers look!

{that second picture looks violent but is actually quite peaceful}

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

I love my job, and the last nine months have been full of change. I have rolled with the punches, and for the most part, I'm relatively unscathed.

Lots more changes are just now starting to happen, and to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of change. Not a single bit.

Even on the nights they aren't with me, these two are my constant. In the midst of all the change, I really, really need my constant right now. These two are my Dynamic Duo.

I suck at goodbyes...I prefer to think of them as see-you-laters, but that doesn't change anything, really. The next couple of days are going to be a little less-than-my-best...
